Not since the Walking Dead did anyone foresee that a post-apocalyptic show could  pull on the heartstrings and play on the fear of the world. The Last of Us series is the live action adaptation of the long loved video game. From the very first episode viewers were subconsciously locked in, the reason being is how non-fictional it truly was.

BACKSTORY.

As previously mentioned the series is based on a well known video game, a post apocolyptic world where cordyceps (very real) have lnfected the population. What can only be described as pilot excellency is the opening scene of the last of us, the science behind their words was so perfectly worded that it felt capable of being real. Perhaps it's the fact that the world has already experienced one pandemic or simply that cordyceps genuinely mimic the game and television show. Instead of taking over the functionality of humans it instead does so with insects.

The series follows very closely behind the game. The game is set before and after the apocalypse, In a word where a single bite can completely change you it becomes survival of the fittest. Sarah is on a search for her father Joel after Texas starts to go up in flames. The news report shares with the players that a virus has created "the infected". After fleeing their home with uncle Tommy, Sarah is unfortunately killed. 20 years later Joel and Tess are ptsd led with delivering a younger girl named Ellie to the fireflies. Joel and Tess come to realise that the Ellie is immune to being infected. That is the start of their rocky journey.

EXCELLENT SCREENPLAYS.

Without any exaggeration it must be said that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann should be nominated for an Emmy Award. Both of whom were the original writers behind the games dialogue as well as the screenwriters on this series.

Of course it was clear from the game that the duo know how to write an untainted story however there's a distinctive level of excellence that they've brought to the show. Yes, the pair had a helping hand as they were able to adapt the games dialogue and storyline into full blown scenes. However, it's all about how they've managed this. They've been able to create backstories, extra characters and develop deeper meaning behind their original scripts. Enough to fill an entire episode that never dropped the attention of their audience.

Mason and Druckmann mastered how to make the audience fall in love with a character and rip that same character away from them in a matter of moments. The audience found themselves feeling for characters they've never heard of before the pressed play in less than an hour.

CASTING.

The drama stars Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Anna Torv (Tess), Storm Reid (Riley), Gabriel Luna (Tommy) and many more talented actors. The casting choices of this series was so perfectly decided, each character was well represented by their actor. Each actor has past experience of delivering captivating perfornances. A must have for the storyline that was being Developed.

Not only where the actors clearly talented but they shared immense chemistry. Their chemistry played into the believability of the show, their vivid love for one another or hatred of cannibalistic and murderous sickos. It all contributed to the intensity of the series, captivating their audience with every minute.

The show follows the physical journey taken by Joel and Ellie as well as their emotional journey in caring for one another in what's become a selfish world. Pedro and Bella executed this perfectly, their chemistry truly reflected that over a father-daughter duo.

EPISODE BREAKDOWN.

As tempting as an episode breakdown is, you deserve to experience the storyline and all of its surprises on your own. Every single episode answers the questions created from the previous one. Don't skip anything, instead binge, rewatch and shower the show with praise.

What can be admitted is that The Last of potentially holds the title of the top five pilot episodes to grace the television screen. Only very few shows can hold a candle to the perfection and high expectations created from the first episode.
