Just when the supporters of Hollywood felt like we were receiving remixed versions of the same concepts, writer Jimmy Warden and director Elizabeth Banks shot the audience up with Cocaine bear.

GLASS ONION ‘A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY’: WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO STAY AFLOAT?

Rian Johnson reignited the flame of whodunnits in Hollywood when she blessed the world in 2019 with ‘Knives Out’. It was much more than just a murder mystery, it was genius, witty, comedic purity and awfully authentic. With a 97% on rotten tomatoes Knives Out made it clear that it was a quality household name with more to come.The glass onion was no continuation from the first instead it had a completely new plot.

BLACK ADAM: GREAT MARKETING CREATES HIGH EXPECTATIONS. MEET THEM.

It is safe to say that Dwayne Johnson’s vocal dreams of Black Adam having his own film series and multiple cameos was put to rest after the movies release. Warner Brothers didn't hold back when it came to marketing the movie. Dwayne Johnson himself was heavily involved in it, pitching ideas on global marketing and distribution. In an eighty million dollar attempt at marketing the film, they raised the overall production cost to over three hundred million. Effective ? Yes because it most certainly raised the interest and expectations for viewers. Which subsequently made the reality that the audience were met with more unfortunate.

WEDNESDAY: BURTON’S SPIN-OFF CERTAINLY SPUN HEADS

‘From the imagination of Tim Burton’ we were gifted with the series Wednesday. A director already known for his dark concepts present in The nightmare before Christmas, Batman (‘89-95), Beetlejuice, Alice in Wonderland (‘10) and Edward scissorhands. Wednesday is Burtons first tv series and his most well received production of this decade. Within its first two weeks Wednesday surpassed the ratings of Stranger things and Dahmer as the most watched English speaking show.

BLOCKBUSTER: A RE-ENACTMENT OF THE MURDER WITH LITTLE EFFECT.

The Office, Superstore, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl and The Mindy Project walked so that Blockbuster could run. Unfortunately, it didn’t. The trailer for Blockbuster was released months ago. It sparked debates over Netflix’s morality as well as excitement for those ready to relish in the nostalgia. Many couldn’t fathom how someone at Netflix gave this the go ahead whereas others saw this cheeky move as potentially being a great sitcom with familiar faces.

Known as being one of the few to actively produce material with Asian leads, Han of course did what she does best. The series is adapted from the novel with noticeable changes to cater to current times however it’s still effective and one for the Wattpad lovers.

THE WOMAN KING: A TALE OF BRAVERY AND FEARLESS WOMEN.

The Woman King is a masterpiece dedicated to highlighting the natural strength and bravery of Black Woman in the nineteenth century. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood the period piece is inspired by the West-African land of Dahomey now known as Benin (since 1975) and its female protectors. Women whom were ranked higher and feared more than men. As told by the movie and history the female protectors of The Dahomey were referred to as The Agojie. Although the movie has been said to not be one hundred percent historically accurate it’s values and message are as clear as day.

As of April 2022 I will be making a dedicated effort to see every movie on its release date and post a film review the same week. As well as reviewing new releases I will be reviewing existing TV programmes and films. Reviews will also stretch into music and theatre.
